USCS Amateur Spotlight: Collegiate Football Player Josh Senkbeil Prepares for SportFight X Bout Against Tunstall
By:Rick Piel
Date:20 March 2012
Josh Senkbeil is a fullback at the University of West Alabama and is a fulltime student of mixed martial arts. Senkbeil's aspirations are to one day be in the UFC and fighting in the big leagues after graduating college.
But before one fights for Dana White, there is much to learn. And Senkbeil may just have the heart to do this. With an incredible training regimen that began in high school and continues through college, Senkbeil can often be found around campus working out and staying in shape. Even on the weekend trips back home to Red Bay, Senkbeil makes time for training with friends at local gyms.
Senkbeil finds it important to prepare his mind, body and spirit and it starts from the time he wakes up the time he goes to bed. Everything revolves around the road to victory as he removes everything out of his room including his bed, dresser, and television in order to make room for mats on the floor and a heavy bag hung. Road to victory starts at home.
The collegiate football player will enter the cage at SportFight X on March 24 against Maurice Tunstall. Senkbeil and Tunstall have both been classified as Advance Fighters by the ISKA meaning that ground and pound is legal. Senkbeil has a record of 2-0 fighting out of Doghouse MMA from Red Bay, Alabama while Tunstall with a 3-0 record is fighting out of the Ron Daily Camp from Clarksville, Tennessee.
This weekend in Huntsville, Alabama SportFight X will host their first show of the year and the first pro/am show under the new Alabama Commission. Senkbeil's battle is only one of two advanced fights with five professional bouts and six amateur bouts taking place throughout the night.
The video below was made to show what Senkbeil does to get ready for the battle in the cage. It begins at home and continues throughout his daily life until he enters the cage.
