REDLINE 155 Grand Prix Fighter Spotlight: Jerrid Burke

Coming to the ring to the song "Gummie Bear"  wearing a lime green Lucha Libre mask, is not exactly what you expect from someone who makes his living punching in someone's face. Unless that is, Jerrod "Trueblood" Burke is on the card. You can then expect not only an in ring performance that inspires many "ooh's" and "oh's" from audience spectators, you are also excited in wonder of what sort of character he will be dressed as. On his most recent fight, Burke entered the cage as Super Man complete with emblem and cape, not to a hard rock or rap song but to the Super Man theme song. When asked what his character would be this go round Burke replied "I can't let that cat out of the bag yet, but rest assured I am coming to put on a show for the fans and you won't be disappointed."
Burke, a student at the University of Georgia majoring in Exercise and Sport Science, has not always been an entertainer. As a child his biggest ambition aside from professional sports was to be a world traveler. In 2001, he got his chance when he joined the United States Navy and spent six years on the USS Abraham Lincoln. During his travels he ran across many gyms and athletic facilities and decided to give one a try. "When i was at the base gym one day I spotted a sign that said kalahi martial arts. I checked out the class and it ended up being a small mixed martial arts gym. I was hooked from then on."
During his travels he trained in many areas of the world including Australia, Thailand and even trained with UFC veteran Ivan Salivarry in his Seattle MMA school. When he finally discharged from the military he made a decision to put his efforts into becoming  professional Mixed Martial Artist and found himself at the Hardcore Gym in Athens, Ga. This is where he currently trains with world class coaches Adam and Rory Singer who have produced such stars as Forrest Griffin, Todd Duffee and Brian Bowles to name a few. Burke lives with Strikeforce and UFC veteran Cale Yarbrough and says the two are great friends and have become addicted to the HBO series Trueblood, which was given to Jerrid as a nickname due to his extended canine teeth that appear almost... vampirish from his mouth when he smiles.
Rest assured vampire or not, Jerrid Burke is out for blood in the 2010 REDLINE 155 Grand Prix, where he will face off against 7 UNDEFEATED fighters in a tournament designed to determine MMA's next break-out star. The first round of the tournament is July 10 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga.
